Fruit, Sugar and the Bariatric Patient



Fruit can be categorized by its glycemic index (GI), a rating that assigns a number based upon the rate of absorption into your body. For weight loss in general, and for bariatric patients it is often helpful to eat foods with a lower GI rating because those foods can feel more filling for less eaten! Choose these fruits in these portion sizes and EAT 2-3 per day!

  1. Whole Apples, any variety small to medium size
  2. ½- ¾ Cup Berries or Cherries
  3. ½ Pear, any variety
  4. ½ Citrus Fruit, orange or grapefruit
  5. 2 Mini Oranges like “Cuties”
